One dead after Jennings County house fire
One person is dead after a house fire Sunday in Jennings County.
According to the Scipio-Geneva Township Fire Department, emergency workers were called to a structure fire in Country Squire Lakes at just before 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They arrived to find a home on Honey Locust Place fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses said that an occupant of the home was still inside and despite efforts from Jennings County deputies and neighbors, he was still trapped inside.
Firefighters attacked the fire and searched the residence, where they found the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim has not yet been released. The Indiana Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to assist with the investigation.
Deputies and Scipio-Geneva Township Fire Department firefighters were assisted at the scene by and Jennings County medics and firefighters from North Vernon, Lovett Township, Campbell Township, Spencer Township and Vernon Township.
