Police recover guns, drugs after chase

A traffic stop in Seymour last week uncovered drugs and weapons thrown from a vehicle.

According to the Seymour Police Department, officers were conducting traffic and crime suppression enforcement and attempted to stop a vehicle on Wednesday. But rather than stop, the driver took off. After a short chase, the driver, identified as 25-year-old Xavier Garlinghouse of Seymour, pulled over in the 500 block of South Vine Street.

Garlinghouse was taken into custody and police believed items might have been discarded during the chase. A police dog was brought to the scene and located a bag along the route. Police recovered a gun and drugs nearby. They also recovered a handgun that had been reported stolen from a vehicle in the Boulevards neighborhood.

Police say that Garlinghouse is also a suspect in a string of vehicle break-ins in the Boulevards area.

Garlinghouse was arrested on preliminary charges including Resisting police in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine and marijuana as well as of a Handgun by a Felon as well as Unlawful Entry of a Vehicle.
