Republican incumbents win Congressional primaries

Area Congressman Jefferson Shreve secured the Republican nomination for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District last night.

Shreve, in his first run for re-election, received 53.1 percent of the vote over his opponent Sarah Brown in the Republican primary, according to unofficial vote totals. He led in Bartholomew County 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent.

Shreve will face Democrat Cinde Wirth in the November general election. She defeated three opponents to secure 59.3 percent of the vote districtwide.

In our area, the 6th Congressional District includes parts of Bartholomew and all of Johnson and Shelby counties.

In the 9th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Erin Houchin was unopposed in the primary election. She will face Democrat Brad Meyer in the November election. He won a four-way primary yesterday with 37.8 percent of the vote. His closest competitor was Tim Peck with 33.3 percent of the vote.

In our area, the 9th Congressional District includes parts of Bartholomew and all of Brown, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties.
