State Farm agency plans donations to area volunteer fire departments
A local insurance agent is pledging to make $1,000 in donations each month this year to help volunteer fire departments.
The Alisha Roberts Insurance Agency is announcing that it is launching the “Protect Those Who Protect Us” Community Initiative.
Robert said that many people may not understand the cost needed to support local volunteer firefighter’s efforts to protect the community. For example, a single pair of fireproof boots or gloves can cost $500. She said that it can take as much as $20,000 to train and fully equip one volunteer firefighter.
Funds from the monthly pledge can be used to offset the cost of essential equipment, safety gear, training, and operational needs.
Roberts is also encouraging community members to donate to their local volunteer departments, or to volunteer your time, help with fundraising or find other ways to assist local firefighters.
Each month, a different local volunteer fire department will be recognized. The first month’s pledge is going to support the Columbus Township Fire and Rescue Department, also known as the East Columbus Independent Volunteer Fire Department.
