State Road 135 to see lane closures for road work next week
INDOT says crews will begin chip sealing on State Road 135 in Brown County starting next week.
According to INDOT, the work will be going on between State Road 46 S near Gnaw Bone and just south of Story near the Brown and Jackson county line. The work is scheduled to start on Monday and is expected to take up to three days, but the work schedule is dependent on the weather.
During the project, you can expect to see lanes closed and flaggers in places.
Chip and sealing a road involves using liquid asphalt to seal cracks and waterproof the surface. Aggregate gravel is applied to the liquid asphalt and then the excess material is swept from the road. After the road cures, crews will return to seal the surface and apply pavement markings.
INDOT says that this extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs.
INDOT reminds you to slow down, to drive without distractions and to be extra alert to worker safety in all work zones.
