STEM Discovery Night set for Oct. 2nd

Area high school students, along with their caregivers and community members will soon have a chance to explore the modern advanced manufacturing world and learn how it requires science, technology, engineering and math skills.

The Next Gen Manufacturing Connections group will be hosting the STEM Discovery Night event event on the evening of October 2nd. It will offer hands-on activities that show STEM in action. That will include robotics, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing methods. You will also be able to meet with local experts and visit exhibitors from companies including Cummins, Toyota Material Handling, Enkei, Faurecia, Lindal Group, and more.

The event is free and you are invited to attend. it will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on October 2nd at Toyota Material Handling’s T+REX Complex at 6125 Inwood Drive.

The event is also a kickoff to the recognition of Manufacturing Week. On Friday, Oct 3rd area high school students will be taking part in Manufacturing Day. The invitation-only event will include hands-on activities, panel discussions and tours of manufacturing plans in the Walesboro area. Organizers say the goal of both events is to show that training in STEM leads to a variety of well-paying jobs.

Next Gen Manufacturing Connections is a collaborative group including local employers, Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, the Community Education Coalition, C-4 Career Tech Ed and the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation.
