Store worker injured after shoplifting incident at Edinburgh outlet malls

A store employee was injured after trying to stop shoplifters at the Indiana Premium Outlet mall in Edinburgh yesterday.

According to the Edinburgh Police Department, rescue workers were called to the mall Wednesday about a store employee who had been struck and injured in the parking lot of the mall. The employee had followed multiple shoplifters from a store and had been struck by a van with Ohio plates. Witnesses at the scene said there was also a second van involved in the incident.

Area police agencies were alerted and a Shelby County deputy soon found a black van with the side door partially hanging off and a second van heading eastbound on State Road 44. The vehicles fled from the deputy with the second van crashing into multiple vehicles on State Road 44 west of Shelbyville. Several people were injured in the crash.

That crash is being investigated by Indiana State Police.

The vehicle suspected of injuring the store worker continued on State Road 44 until spike strips were used to bring it to a stop. A woman and a 17 year old male from Ohio were arrested for the thefts in Edinburgh. Additional charges are being sought for the injuries to the store worker as well as charges against more theft suspects.
