Update: More than 1,000 still without power after storms

Many area residents remain without power this afternoon after last night’s strong winds and severe thunderstorms.

Duke Energy is reporting just over 1,000 customers without power in Bartholomew County, 66 in southern Shelby County, 22 in southern Johnson County, 176 in the Nashville area and 72 in Seymour.

Bartholomew County REMC has 66 customers without power this afternoon, Jackson County REMC is reporting 17 outages and South Central Indiana REMC has 83 customers in Brown County without power.

Many area residents remain without power this morning after last night’s strong winds and severe thunderstorms.

Duke Energy is reporting about 3,000 customers without power in Bartholomew County, with another 85 in the Nashville area and 80 between Seymour and North Vernon.

Bartholomew County REMC has just over 50 customers without power this morning, while Jackson County REMC is reporting 80 customers with outages. South Central Indiana REMC reports 1,150 customer without power in Brown County.

Forecasters say that you can expect a windy morning.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a wind advisory for our area that remains in effect until 8 a.m. You can expect sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with wind gusts of up to 45 mph.

Even after the wind advisory expires, you can expect wind gusts of up to 40 mph throughout the day today. Snow showers are also possible today and that could lead to blowing snow that reduces visibility throughout the day.

You can expect the wind to blow around any unsecured items outside. Tree limbs could be knocked down and more power outages are possible.

The wind gusts could also make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Forecasters suggest you take extra caution if you have to be on the road this morning.
