Thunderstorms today could turn severe

Our area is under the threat of severe weather today.

According to the National Weather Service, our area is under a slight risk of severe weather, that is the second lowest threat level. Thunderstorms are expected in several rounds starting early this morning, with the greatest chance of severe weather before 3 p.m.

The primary threat will be damaging winds with gusts of more than 60 mph, but there is also the chance for large hail, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain with localized flooding.

Bartholomew County Emergency Management urges you to take steps to prepare yourself for severe weather. They suggest that you ensure you have several ways to receive weather warnings, that you make sure your cell phone and other essential devices are fully charged and to make sure that you have a severe weather safety plan and know where you will go to seek shelter at home and work if there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado.
