The Meatless Movement

It’s been going on for a while but with Burger King’s Impossible Whopper coming to the market in 2019 meatless meat has made its way into the mainstream. Now, nearly every fast-food franchise has their version of a meatless dish. White Castle has the ‘Impossible Slider’, McDonald’s is testing the P.L.T (Plant Lettuce and Tomato),  Del Taco has the ‘Beyond Taco’, Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr. has a bevy of meatless meat options, and Little Caesars is introducing meatless sausage pizzas. So many options for the meatless consumer out there has to be exciting for the vegetarians and vegans looking for fast foods option. Today I talked about Hooter’s and their new meatless chicken wings. There is no way you can convince me that meatless meat can resemble a chicken wing from a texture standpoint but supposedly they’re delicious. While I’m not sure Hooter’s target audience cares much about going meatless it’s still a nice attempt to make a splash as a business. I have so many questions about meatless meat. My Granny is mostly meatless and she says that the Beyond burgers are so close to actual meat that she was concerned that it wasn’t vegetarian the first time she had one. If that’s the case, I have to know, why would a meat-avoider want a product that looks, feels, and tastes like meat?? Why not just eat a carrot instead? I think, for now, I’ll stick to my meated meat and enjoy my burgers just the way the cow intended.
