Area suspects among those arrested in child exploitation operation

A multi-agency child exploitation sting operation organized out of Johnson County led to the arrest of 19 men this week, including suspects from Columbus, Greenwood and Franklin.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the operation was a coordinated effort between Johnson County deputies, police from Franklin, Bargersville, Greenfield and Westfield working with the Johnson County Prosecutor Office.

The investigation is part of ongoing efforts since 2019 to identify and arrest online child predators.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to educate children about online safety.

Those arrested over the three day operation came from as far away Tampa, Florida and Oklahoma.

Among the local suspects arrested were:

62-year-old Michael W. Roney of Columbus, 38-year-old Chukwuma L. Offor of Greenwood and 44-year-old Lal R. Bawla also of Greenwood on charges of child solicitation and patronizing a prostitute.

45-year-old Michael R. Gallagher of Franklin on a charge of child solicitation
