Camp Atterbury to open in June for Community Day

Camp Atterbury will be celebrating its anniversary with a Community Day in June.

The base was formed out of parts of Bartholomew, Brown and Johnson counties in 1942, just after the start of World War II.

According to the Indiana National Guard, the celebration will be Saturday, June 13th. Activities will kick off at 7:45 in the morning when the gates open for a 5k run/walk and ruck that starts at 8:30 in the morning.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the afternoon the base will be open for visitors. Activities will include guided bus tours, a virtual marksmanship simulator, a Blackhawk UH-60 helicopter displayed, a rappelling tower and performances by the 38th Infantry Division Rock Band. Food will be available for purchase.
