Nexus Park to host major wrestling tourney this weekend
Columbus is expecting nearly 3,000 visitors in town this weekend, as Nexus Park hosts a major wrestling tournament.
According to city officials, the War of the Roses Midwest Nationals Wrestling Tournament will be going on at the Circle K Fieldhouse at Nexus Park Friday through Sunday. More than 60 teams are slated to participate bringing more than 2,800 athletes, coaches and spectators to the event.
City officials say that this is the first major event of the fall and winter season. They also believe that this will showcase the hospitality, coordination and pride of the city of Columbus.
The event will use Donner Center on 22nd Street for overflow parking. Shuttles will be running visitors from the center to Nexus Park on 25th Street. The peak hours are expected to be from 7 to 10 in the morning and from 6 to 9 in the evening and shuttles will be running in a continuous loop between the two facilities. The rest of the day, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the shuttles will run at the top and bottom of each hour. Signage will be in place throughout the Nexus Park campus directing visitors to parking locations and where to catch a shuttle.
The busiest day is expected to be Saturday. Local businesses, retailers and restaurants are being alerted to the expected crowd size during the event. Visitors will have access to tourism tools that provide lists of local dining options and other information.
