Police help with an eviction notice in North Vernon led to the arrest of an occupant on drug-related charges.

According to the North Vernon Police Department, officers responded to the request on Hoosier Street after an eviction notice was issued effective on Monday. While on scene, police say that they noticed a man in the area who smelled of marijuana. When questioned, Isaiah Long allegedly first admitted that he had marijuana and then said he did not. Officers began to pat him down and that’s when he tried to run away.

He was quickly taken into custody and a search uncovered he was carrying suspected methamphetamine in his billfold, along with marijuana in his pocket and other drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on a preliminary felony charge for possessing the methamphetamine, as well as misdemeanor charges for possessing paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

Jennings County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.
