School board races take shape ahead of November election

Local school board races are set after candidate registration ended last week.

According to the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Voter Registration Office four candidates filed for school board seats for Bartholomew Consolidated Schools and three for Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools in the November election. For the first time, school board candidates had the option to run as a Republican, Democrat or unaffiliated.

For Bartholomew Consolidated Schools, Republicans filing for election included:

• Katherine (Katy) Bush – BCSC School Board District 1
• Barbara Jones – BCSC School Board District 2 – Republican
• Monica Federle – BCSC School Board District 6 – Republican

Dale Nowlin also filed for election to the District 4 BCSC seat as an unaffiliated candidate.

For Flat Rock Haw Creek School Board, Paul Ashbrook filed as a Republican for the Hawcreek District seat. Independents Patrick Walters filed for the at-large seat and Jay Phelps filed for the Flatrock District seat.

For the rest of the open spots on the November ballot, political parties can fill their ballot vacancies through noon on July 6th. Independents have until noon, June 30th to turn in petitions & until noon, July 15th to turn in their certified paperwork.
