Wrestling tourney pulls tourists to Nexus Park fieldhouse
Columbus city officials are touting the success of the Circle K Fieldhouse at Nexus Park in drawing sports tourists to the community, pointing to a weekend wrestling tournament.
According to the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, the second annual Folkstyle Wrestling event was held this past weekend at the center. Early indications are that the event generated about $1.36 million in economic impact to the community and filled about 2,262 hotel rooms Friday and Saturday.
The inaugural event in 2025 drew 10,400 unique visitors over the two-day competition.
The Circle K Fieldhouse at Nexus Park opened in April of 2024.
Parks officials say that they are working closely with nearby businesses to ensure smooth operations for the attendees and local establishments. That includes preparing businesses for events by sharing advance notice of major tournaments, providing expected attendance numbers and helping with parking planning.
